Netfilter Developer Workshop 2005:

The workshop in 2005 was held in Seville, Spain. More information can be found at the official web page at http://workshop.netfilter.org and there is also Eric Leblond's great workshop blog at http://nfws.inl.fr/en/

This year the presentation was focused on the current status of the HiPAC project and future directions. Soon nf-HiPAC will become a full drop-in replacement for iptables with all the functionality of iptables, outstanding performance and with none of the drawbacks and limitation of iptables. nf-HiPAC was widely accepted as the successor of iptables. The Netfilter core team voted for inclusion into mainline kernel as soon as possible. Before that, proper versioning has to be added to the kernel <-> user space communication used in nf-HiPAC.

Netfilter Developer Workshop 2004:

The workshop in 2004 was help in Erlangen, Germany. This year's presentation gave a short overview of nf-HiPAC and the algorithmic approach again, but then focused on what had happened since the last year. A large part of the presentation was about the improved algorithm that had been designed during the previous year. The different optimization strategies are not included in the slides of the talk, but instead separate pdf files were used. Unfortunately it is probably very hard to understand the different optimization approaches without having attended the presentation and without further explanations. Sorry. We will add proper documentation about HiPAC at some time in the future.

Netfilter Developer Workshop 2003:

The workshop in 2003 was held in Budapest, Hungary. The HiPAC project presented its first results. People were really amazed by our presentation and all the work we had done since the last workshop. Probably nobody expected something like that. The presentation was quite long (too long, more than two and a half hours), but everybody was listening attentively until the end. This was the most detailed presentation we have given so far, so if you want to know something about the internals of HiPAC, start with this presentation. But please keep in mind that some of the details are obsolete by now.

Netfilter Developer Workshop 2001:

The workshop in 2001 was held in Enschede, Netherlands. The HiPAC project did not present anything there yet. But we raised a discussion about the problems of iptables regarding lookup performance and rule updates. People were quite interested in solutions to these problems, so we were motivated to continue our work on the HiPAC project which we had just started.
